CS2 speeds up Retakes: when bomb defuses now finish instantly

Valve’s November 5, 2026 CS2 update cuts the waiting in Retakes. Bomb defuses can now finish instantly, while freeze time and the round restart delay are shorter. Instant completion has two conditions, though: it is not automatic on every defuse.

CS2 update: less waiting in Retakes. In-game C4 and green light, November 5, 2026.

When does an instant defuse work in Retakes?

Both conditions must be met: enough time remains in the round to defuse, and no active utility remains that could prevent the defuse. When those conditions hold, the defuse finishes immediately.

Starting a defuse alone is not enough. Insufficient time or utility still capable of stopping it means the condition is not met. This change is specified for Retakes, rather than as a new rule for Premier or Competitive matches.

ChangeWhat players get
Defusing in RetakesInstant completion with enough time and no active utility that could prevent it
Freeze timeA shorter wait before play begins
Round restart delayLess downtime before the next round

How much shorter are the round delays?

Valve confirmed the reductions but did not give new timings in seconds. The patch notes do not support an exact figure for either delay.

What else changed in the CS2 update?

Map creators gain entity-spawning tools through `Entities.Spawn`, the `Instance.OnBotControl` callback and methods for checking bot control and retrieving the controlled bot. Moved and renamed functions remain available in their original locations, marked deprecated.

There are pet chicken changes too: pinging one during freeze time requests a trick. Chicken names are hidden when the customized item text option is set to hidden.

These patch notes announce no new cases, collections or trading changes. For players, the main change is a faster Retakes pace through less waiting.
