What is new in the CS2 update?
Map makers can check whether resources have loaded for the server and players. Scripts also gain access to hostage interactions, warmup controls, team scores and round endings.
Players will encounter these options on custom maps and modes whose creators use them. Adding a tool does not update every map’s scenario automatically. Valve posted the notes on October 22, 2026 UTC, or the morning of October 23 in UTC+8.
Did weapons change, and will I get more FPS?
These notes list no changes to weapon damage or recoil. Valve also makes no claim of an FPS increase.
Precaching exposes resource readiness to a map script. The announcement gives no measurements of loading-time or frame-drop improvements.
What changed for hostages?
Creators gain events for starting or cancelling a hostage pickup, carrying, rescue and death. Scripts can identify the rescuer and the timing of the pickup.
A map’s scenario can use those signals to respond to a player’s actions. In the official API, these options centre on the CSHostage object.
What should map makers check?
Instance.Precache handles the new resource-loading checks. Console functions move into Console, while match controls move into GameRules. Instance.Msg is renamed Console.Log.
Moved functions still work under their old names, marked deprecated. Check those calls when updating a script. Warnings now include JavaScript call stacks and invalid-argument details; argument numbering starts at zero.
