CS2 esports dictionary
Understand roles, statistics and tournaments before comparing players.
AWPer
A player who specializes in the AWP sniper rifle. The role can change by map or round.
Rifler
A player who primarily uses rifles such as the AK-47 or M4. This does not specify their tactical role.
IGL
In-game leader: the player coordinating tactical calls. The coach and IGL are different roles.
Entry / Lurker / Support
Entry creates space through early fights. A lurker pressures elsewhere; support uses utility and trades to help teammates. Responsibilities overlap.
ADR
Average damage per round. Compare the same period, competition level and sample size; damage alone does not describe a player’s whole contribution.
K/D
Kills divided by deaths. A small sample, role and opponent strength can change the interpretation.
KAST
Percentage of rounds with a kill, assist, survival or a traded death. Definitions depend on the statistics provider; check its methodology.
Rating
A provider-specific performance metric. Different rating versions are not interchangeable; compare the same version and period.
VRS
Valve Regional Standings: team rankings used for tournament invitations. A global team position is not an individual player rating.
Major / MVP
A Major is a Valve-sponsored Counter-Strike championship. MVP means most valuable player; the awarding body and event matter.
DPI / sensitivity / eDPI
eDPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity. Compare within CS2; matching eDPI does not make hardware identical.
4:3 stretched / 16:9
Stretched 4:3 changes the apparent shape of models and shows less horizontal scene than 16:9. It does not enlarge hitboxes.
