How to sell a CS2 skin on Steam: step by step

  1. Open Steam, go to your inventory and select Counter-Strike 2.
  2. Select the item. Check its description again, especially if you own several similar skins.
  3. Choose Sell. If the option is missing or Steam shows a restriction, check the item description to see whether it can be sold and whether a restriction expiry date is shown.
  4. Enter a price and check both figures in the form: the buyer's total and your proceeds after fees. Make sure the amount going to your Wallet is the amount you intend to receive.
  5. Check the full price, including the decimal separator, then confirm that you want to list the item for sale. If Steam asks for another confirmation, complete it in the official app or through the method Steam specifies.
  6. Open the Community Market and check that the item appears under your active listings. An active listing is an offer to sell; it does not mean someone has bought the item.

A Community Market sale does not require a separate trade to a bot. If someone messages you asking to “verify” the item or send it to an intermediary, stop and check the warning signs of a scam.

How to set the selling price of a CS2 skin

Before listing, open your skin's Community Market page. Check the weapon, finish, exterior condition, and whether it is a StatTrak or Souvenir item. Compare prices for items with the same attributes. A similar name alone is not enough.

Check current listings, buy orders and the sales history where available. A listing's price shows what a seller is asking. A buy order shows what a buyer is willing to pay. The sales history shows prices from completed transactions. It can help you compare offers, but it does not guarantee that your skin will sell for the same amount.

If you want to sell sooner, check what buyers are offering in current buy orders and how much would reach your Wallet after fees at that price. If you ask for more than those buyers are offering, the sale may take longer. Buy orders and prices can change while you prepare the listing.

If your skin has an unusual pattern or stickers, inspect the individual item and check its attributes before choosing a price. The presence of stickers alone does not tell you how much extra a buyer might pay.

Steam and CS2 fees: how to calculate your sale proceeds

Steam lists a 5% Steam Transaction Fee and a separate 10% Counter-Strike 2 fee. These are included in what the buyer pays. As a seller, use the proceeds shown in the listing form.

Suppose you want US$100 to reach your Steam Wallet after selling a skin. In this hypothetical example, both fees are calculated on that US$100. Rounding and minimum fees are excluded:

BreakdownAmount
Added to the seller's Steam WalletUS$100
Steam fee, 5% of US$100US$5
CS2 fee, 10% of US$100US$10
Buyer pays in totalUS$115

The total fee in this example is US$15, or approximately 13.04% of the buyer's payment: 15 ÷ 115 × 100. If you incorrectly calculate the seller's proceeds by subtracting 15% from US$115, you get US$97.75 instead of US$100.

Steam has a minimum transaction fee, and some currencies have a minimum listing price. Check the listing form for the exact amount that will reach your Wallet, particularly when selling inexpensive items. The figures above are a hypothetical fee calculation, not a current price for any skin.

Why your CS2 skin is not selling

What happensWhat to check
The item has no Sell optionWhether it is marketable and whether its description gives a restriction expiry date
Steam blocks access to the MarketThe account restriction message, including the reason and expiry date if it is temporary
The item is missing from your active listingsWhether you still need to confirm the listing or Steam has shown a delay message
The listing is active but has not soldPrices of comparable items and current buy orders; there is no guaranteed time to sell

Your account also needs access to the Community Market. Among other requirements, Steam Guard must have been enabled for at least 15 days, and the account must have a qualifying purchase that is at least 7 days old but no more than a year old. Other restrictions can follow a password reset, removal of an authenticator or other account changes.

Limited accounts have an additional requirement: purchases or Wallet top-ups that Steam counts towards lifting the restriction must total at least US$5, or the equivalent in another currency. Proceeds from selling items do not count towards that threshold. Reaching US$5 does not remove the Steam Guard waiting period or other Market restrictions.

If the item description gives a date when it can be sold, use that date. Changing your Trade URL does not remove a restriction on selling an item or an account restriction.

How to change the price or remove a listing

Until someone buys the item, you can remove its listing and put it up for sale again at a different price. Before confirming the new listing, check the amount that will reach your Steam Wallet after fees.

A completed Community Market sale cannot be cancelled. Check the price and the item before listing it.

How to use the proceeds from selling a case or skin

If you are selling a case or skin to buy another item, compare your proceeds after fees with the full purchase price. Suppose the sale adds US$100 to your Wallet and the skin you want costs US$120. You still need US$20. This is a hypothetical example; use the amounts shown in your own Steam account and make sure they are in the same currency.

You do not have to add money straight away. You can keep the balance in your Steam Wallet until another sale. Our guide to free CS2 skins and weekly drops explains how to get the weekly rewards.

If you are deciding whether to sell or open a dropped case, read our comparison of case opening and buying a skin. When planning to buy a particular skin, compare its full price with your available Steam balance. Do not budget for money from a case you have not opened: you do not yet know which item will drop or how much it will sell for.
