Steam fixes games freezing after Alt+Tab on Linux

Steam’s October 21, 2026 update fixes Vulkan games hanging after Alt+Tab on Linux. The client also receives fixes for Remote Play streams from Windows and browser-window crashes on macOS.

Will the update fix my game freezing after Alt+Tab?

The fix covers switching away from Vulkan games on Linux. It does not promise a general solution for Alt+Tab on Windows or every CS2 hang.

Linux also receives a fix for the Steam updater window failing to appear for some users.

What changed in Steam on Windows?

Remote Play gets a memory-leak fix when streaming from a Windows computer. Valve specifies NVENC encoding, H.264 video and unlimited bandwidth.

These conditions concern the computer sending the game to another device. Compare them with your Remote Play settings.

What did Steam fix on Mac?

Valve fixed a Steam client crash when opening some browser windows on macOS.

What other Steam errors were fixed?

General fixes also cover an incorrect Steam Service Error after quickly quitting and restarting, date display for users in British Columbia and updated certificate revocation lists.

Do I need to update Steam manually?

Valve says the client update downloads automatically. These fixes are part of Steam, so there is no separate CS2 patch file to download for them.

After installation, try the same game and window switch that triggered the freeze.
